I was intending to post more frequently over the summer than I have. Not sure why the time is flying so fast.
Last Sunday we were worshipping with our daughter, her husband, and their son …our grand … okay, let’s just say the amazing 2 year old called Aidan. We were at the church my daughter serves in Atlanta. The pastor mentioned something in his sermon that I had never heard, namely that communion was celebrated on the moon in the first lunar landing. Now, I still recall that day as my grandmother urged me to watch television to see the first lunar landing. We did not see communion being taken because NASA decided not to broadcast that for fear of creating controversy. Yet it was a profound moment in history! Read about it here.
On Monday we learned that my father-in-law, a godly man in his late 80’s, was coming into his final days. On Tuesday hospice nurses suggested that he had perhaps a day left in him. On Wednesday morning they were surprised to find him still here and asked “who is not here that he may be hanging on for?” Well, that would have been us. My wife felt an urgency to get there (but not urgent enough to keep me from speeding much). She got to see him tonight. This is the father of 6 and grandfather of 20+ (not to mention the great grandfather of many). He was a great role model of the faith. As I said to my wife today, he was an extraordinary man who lived an ordinary life as a husband, father, teacher, coach, and choir director. He was a great role model to me and my kids! Now we await his transition from earth to the heavenly realms.
I cannot help but to think about the generations that were influenced by the solid faith of that one man.
