The Rev. (soon to be Rev. Dr.) Rob Sturdy suggested I make the letters of Samuel Rutherford part of my devotional reading while on Sabbatical in Scotland. Rutherford was buried here in St. Andrew’s where he taught for several years. The book I am reading daily now is called “30 Days with Samuel Rutherford” and is very challenging not merely for it’s archaic language but the profound insights into the nature of humanity is incredible. Worth reading! Also interesting to discover that my ancestors were on both sides of the reformation. I however am clearly on the side of Rutherford. I am deeply impressed by the man and hope to be profoundly shaped by his writing.
